military and their families

The members of the U.S. military have been facing a multitude of challenges these last few years. Not only are they experiencing the well-known "Post traumatic stress disorder," but also intense depression and anxiety. The result? Increasing prevalence of drug and alcohol use and drastically climbing suicide incidents.

Members of the military are gone from home for months at a time and the family who is left here experience incredible stress due to missing a family member, worrying about that person, as well as the difficulties of running a household alone.

On top of all of this, there may be members of the military who are uncomfortable with seeking mental health treatment through insurance for fear of documentation of mental illness. Organizations like Give An Hour have stepped up to try to remove this barrier to treatment.

As a GAH volunteer therapist, I provide at least one hour a week of therapy for military members and their families at no charge.
