youth and their families

I work with clients as young as 12 years old. In my experience as a therapist as well as a former teenager, I think that these adolescent years are marked by huge gaps of understanding, both within you and between you and others. In addition to going through an “existential crisis” (i.e., Who am I and what am I doing here?) there are others all around you who are trying to answer those questions for you.

That doesn’t work too well, does it?

So, what can we do?

Let’s try to figure out why are you indeed here, what is going on between you and others, and how can you find some internal peace in the midst of turmoil.

Parents beware: I hold the belief that adolescents hold the answers and are the best experts about themselves, so I don’t bear down on them with my own ideas or yours. However, I do challenge them to evaluate the effectiveness of their behaviors and whether those behaviors are helping or hurting their movement toward achieving their desires.
